General University Information

The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is the graduate school of public health affiliated with UCLA, and is located within the Center for Health Sciences building on the UCLA campus. UCLA is located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The dean of the school is Linda Rosenstock, MD, MPH. She began her term as dean on November 1, 2000, following 6 years as head of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The UCLA School of Public Health has more than 8,000 alumni and 80 full-time faculty, with students from over 35 countries.

Program Description

MPH Program (2-year)

MPH graduates who choose to concentrate in health policy should be able to:

  • Apply paradigms from economics, sociology, political science and law to analyze policy issues and to develop potential policy solutions.

MPH graduates who choose to concentrate in health services management should be able to:

  • Apply paradigms from sociology, political science, organization theory and behavior, strategic planning and marketing, financial theory, quality improvement, information systems sciences, and other management sciences to continuously and effectively manage organizational performance and solve practical issues confronted while managing health care organizations.

Post-Doctoral MPH Program (1-year)

In addition to the general MPH objectives, graduates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate their ability to integrate their previous training and experience with the MPH curriculum to better understand and improve the organization and delivery of health services.

MPH Program for Health Professionals

In addition to the general MPH objectives, graduates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate individual and organizational leadership competencies.

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation – two from former professors and one from an employer. If the applicant has been out of school for over 5 years, three letters from employers are acceptable. *Please note letters of recommendation must be electronic only.
  •  One Set of Official Transcripts from each institution you have attended.
  • Official GRE Test Scores – UCLA School of Public Health Code for ETS to report to SOPHAS: 4225
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS Scores (for international applicants only)
  •  Writing Sample (for doctoral applicants applying to Community Health Sciences or Health Services) Submit writing sample in the additional questions section under “School Designations”.
